The Name Of Jesus Has Become A Dirty Word In Politically Correct America.

Background:

It was God, who planned on Israel’s journey and fixed the route of them, while they traveled in the wilderness. When Israel camped at Rephidim, we know that this is the place where they contended (quarreled) with Moses, the place that they tempted God for not having water to drink. But the graceful Lord provided them water from the rock. (You may read Exodus 17:1-7)

The Amalekites defeated – how does this relates to our prayerful life?

Rephidim was also the place where Amalekites came to attack them.

At that time, Moses first spoken to Joshua and commanded him to bring himself some men, to go out to fight the Amalekites. Whereas, for Moses, he went up to the top of the hill with the staff of God in his hand. In this, it made them a great team. Moses who is wise and assigned Joshua as leader to lead Israel to fight the war, also not forgetting to have himself dedicated to pray for Israel.

What is the staff of God that Moses had in his hand?

This was the same staff that Moses used to perform miracles in the land of Egypt, this was also the same staff that Moses used to strike over Red sea to divide the water so that Israel can be saved from the hand of Pharaoh by crossing the sea.  There is nothing magical with the staff.

It was God whom stretch out His hand and strike Egypt:

God said in Exodus 3: 20 “So I will stretch out my hand and strike the Egyptians with all the wonders that I will perform among them. After that, he will let you go.”

When Moses encountered God on the mountain of God – Horeb. God asked him to go back to Egypt and save Israel out of the hand of Pharaoh. It was Moses who is worried if the people of Israel believe him and listen to what he says.

And so, the Lord said these:

Exodus 4: 2-5: The the Lord said to him, “What is it in your hand?” “A staff.” he (Moses) replied. The Lord said, “Throw it on the ground.” Moses threw it on the ground and it became a snake, and he ran from it. “Reach out your hand and take it by the tail.” So Moses reached out and took hold of the snake and it turned back into a staff in his hand. “This” Said the Lord ” is so that they may believe that the Lord, the God of their fathers – the God of Abraham, the God of Isaac and the God of Jacob – has appeared to you.”

The staff of God simply means the presence of God, the need of Moses in having God to be with Israel and him. It means, the Lord God appeared to him for the sake of Israel. And it means that our faithful God remembered them for the sake of their forefather – Abraham, Isaac and Jacob, and Moses.

The work of God and the work of men

The Scripture tells us that Joshua fought the Amalekites and Moses brought Aaron, Hur and his staff with him and went up to the top of the hill. Moses had his hands up with his staff high lifted. Moses lifted up his staff – which represent that he was lifted up the Lord.

Exodus 17:15-16 Moses built an altar and called it THE LORD IS MY BANNER. He said, “For hands were lifted up to the throne of the Lord. The Lord will be at war against the Amalekites from generation to generation.”

Joshua fought and Moses prayed. These two works had to work together.

The faith and weary – Israelites

Deuteronomy 25:17-18 Remember what the Amalekites did to you along the way when you came out of Egypt. When you were weary and worn out, they met you on your journey and cut off all who were lagging behind; they had no fear of God.

It was clear that Amalekites took advantage of them when they were weary and worn out. Not forgetting that these Israelites were not a group of well-trained men, they were slaves to the Egyptians for years and being called out by the Lord to follow Him.

Therefore, it is now interesting to know on the fact that – as long Moses’ hands were held up, Israelites were winning; and when his hands were lowered down, the Amalekites were winning.

Prayer is a hardwork, therefore do not cease in prayer nor despise it

And so, when Moses’ hands grew tired, Aaron and Hur brought him stone for him to sit on it, and helped his hands up, each on a side.  There is no mentioned that Joshua grew tire in the battle; but it mentioned on the one (Moses) who was praying on the top of the hill grew tire.

When it seems to have no way for Israel to win with victory, but with the hands of Moses high lifted – they won. Therefore, do not despise the work of prayer.

James 2:14 What good is it, my brothers, if a man claims to have faith bu has no deeds (works)? Can such faith save him?

The work of men by Joshua and the work of God through prayer by Moses (together with Aaron and Hur), these combination brought great victory.

Finally, Moses – by the help of Aaron and Hur, his hands were lifted up till sunset, and Joshua succeeded in overtaking the Amalekites. Moses prayed from the morning till sunset, that demonstrated his persistency in his prayer life.

The Lord wanted Moses to write on this incident and make sure Joshua hears it. It was by the hand of the Almighty Lord that they won, and not by the work of men alone. Moses then built an altar to give thanks to the Lord and he remember the words of the Lord.

You who are the people of God, have you pray when your ‘Amalekites’ attack in life?

Science – God created it, men discovered it.

Science doesn’t made men God, instead it pointed men to see the existence of God. It helps men to discover more of the creation of God, to understand that there is a Creator whom created it all – before the existence of men.

God gives life, but not science. God created, but not science. Theories and assumptions driven men to investigate and research more; facts in history are proven with evidences. Theories or assumptions are never a fact supported by evidences. It only gives space to men to explore, to test and operate until they get results.

With technologies, men produce, never a ‘create.’ (In Chinese, 神创造;人发明). That is why in today business, terms stay in the income statement are ‘research and development costs’ never a ‘create costs’.

Do not confuse. God isn’t against science, instead God created science. It is men (not all) that were/are against God. Men discovered and investigate to test with theories which are still very uncertain, especially in the beginning state.

Things produced by men called production, never a creation. Actually, God loves it when men discovered more in science, because men see greater proves of HIS existence – GOD existence. Too bad, it is men limitations that restricted men into understanding further.

Example: Men manage time, but God created it.

I do agree that many of our scientists believe in God, instead they believe even more.

That was why Max Planck (1858-1947) said this:

“It was not by accident that the greatest thinkers of all ages were deeply religious souls.”

–German physicist, noted for work on quantum theory

At last but not least, I would like to say, “The fact that God exists will never be affected by your believe. Whether you believe it or not, HE is existing.”

What is on a happy woman’s mind?

Below are what has been told by a happy woman whom have just got married.

“Do you see what you are having, or what you are not having?” She continued saying, “I chosen the first one.”

They used to see a pregnant lady driving alone to work.
So her husband asked “Don’t you desire to own a nice car like hers?”

The wife paused for a while and took her deep breath.
Her words ceased the silence, “You know what? I am not only having a car, but also a husband whom is willing to drive me to work everyday.”

She treasured what she has, and she finally said “The best thing in life is always free.”

Matthew 6:8 Do not be like them, for your Father knows what you need before you ask him.

To grow old together

“Have you seen my spectacles?”
Before he can wait for an answer, he found it on the dining table in the living hall. He then grabbed it and put it on speedily, so he could continued reading on his bible.

She curiously observed him from a short distance, and thought to herself “He is growing much older lately.” Time has left its footsteps on his face by leaving him ageing lines. Her heart was happy because they have each other in life.

He noticed on her and asked, “Darling, is everything alright?”
“Yes, it is alright to grow older.” She replied.
Before the husband can react to her answer, she was burst with laughter. Not for a while, the house was full of laughter.

There is nothing men can do to fight against time, they can’t escape from growing older. Though they are outwardly wearing out , but inwardly they are being renewed each and everyday.

2 Corinthians 4:16, Therefore we do not lose heart. Though outwardly we are wasting away, yet inwardly we are being renewed day by day.

Men have the image of God,
with emotion and able to demonstrate loves to one another.

You can’t buy love,
if it can be bought, then it is never a true love.

Mark 12:30-31 Love the Lord you God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind and with all your strength. The second is this ‘Love your neighbor as yourself.’ There is no commandment greater than these.

Have you ever come across a moment where you have great difficulties in telling someone about your feelings toward them?
Maybe it is how love should be?
Well, just let it be this way.

Because, there are times better to saved words and prove it the best way – which is through actions.
You may then realised, their heart managed to sense when their ears failed to hear.

Is God remaining silence to you?
Or maybe, it is because you refused to hear while He was speaking.

John 6:63 The Spirit gives life; the flesh counts for nothing. The words I have spoken to you are spirit and they are life.
